Lawyer Dora Zappia

Dora Zappia graduated in Law from the University of Trieste in 2004 with a dissertation on medical liability in civil law, for which she was awarded a regional thesis prize by the Regional Council of Friuli Venezia Giulia. She qualified as a lawyer in 2007, was admitted to the Trieste Bar Association in 2008, and has been entitled to plead before the Italian's Supreme Court since 2021. In 2013, she was appointed to various committees and charitable foundations by the Municipality of Trieste, and in 2017 she was designated by the Regional Council of Friuli Venezia Giulia as a representative on the Regional Council for the Integration of Foreign Nationals. Her legal work focuses primarily on the protection of vulnerable individuals, with particular emphasis on family law and legal support for women victims of violence. She also serves as a court-appointed special guardian for minors in proceedings before the Juvenile Court. Dora Zappia is a recognised expert in immigration law, with extensive experience in international protection, anti-trafficking legislation, anti-discrimination law, and citizenship. She collaborates with local authorities responsible for protecting victims of human trafficking and has contributed to the implementation of the “FVG Network Against Trafficking” project for the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region. She also works with the NAVIGARe project in the Veneto Region.

Practice Areas

A former regional representative for Friuli Venezia Giulia of the Association for Legal Studies on Immigration (ASGI)—which she represented in several civil proceedings on anti-discrimination law—she co-founded the Chamber of Immigration Lawyers of the Triveneto (CAIT) in 2018, serving as its Secretary until 2024. She is also a board member of the Chamber of Lawyers for Human Rights and Migrants (CADUS), where she served as Secretary in 2024. Dora is a member of the Civil Bar Association of Trieste and the Juvenile Bar Association of Friuli Venezia Giulia. Her professional experience is enriched by a longstanding commitment to training and continuing legal education, with a focus on the rights of foreign nationals. Since 2012, she has spoken at numerous events and contributed to the organisation of courses, conferences, and seminars at both local and national level, aimed at lawyers, legal practitioners, and university students.
